LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINES. I'M NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE SAME 1/2 MILE HIGH BANKED TRACK THAT I RACED ON WAAAY BACK IN 1969 . I RAN THERE TWICE AS I RECALL: FINISHING THIRD BEHIND BUTCH LINDLY AND JACK INGRAM....THE ONLY OTHER TIME I WAS THERE, I BLEW THE MOTOR OF MY '57 CHEVY. IF THIS IS THE TRACK I THINK IT IS, IT WAS A TRACK I ENJOYED VERY MUCH. IF THIS WAS IN 1969 AS I THINK IT WAS,THOSE TWO RACES COST ME THE TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE HICKORY SPEEDWAY.(I FINISHED 2ND BEHIND HARRY GANT) WELL, WHATCHA GONNA DO. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS THE TRACK I THINK IT IS. RICHARD BROWN #44

I'm a little young to actaully remember races at the track but I grow up in Augusta and can remember going to the track with my daddy (Richard H. Church) in the late 60's maybe earty 70's in his 50 something car. I at least have one good memory of us/him racing a friend (after the track had already closed) and the cops getting after us by the time we got home no sign of any cops :). Does anyone remember my dad from them years?

I am compiling a racing scrapbook as a memorial to my father. He built race cars and Joe Penland drove for him 1963-1965. There was a race in Augusta where he took lead from Bobby Isaac and Joe Penland won that race crossing the finish line upside down. I would love to know more about it - a picture would be awesome. Any help would be appreciated.

I do not remember much about Joe Penland's racing career but I do remember the story about this race and I was told that the trophy for this race was a trophy with a upside car on it.
Joe was my uncle. His sister Becky was my mother. I do not have any pictures or any articles of his career. I would love to see some if anyone has any. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
